How Did Brishti Majhi Up Her Six-Hitting Game This Season?
By Virendra Karunakar

With the auction for Season 5 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) set to happen at the end of this month, we look at some of the most impressive Indian domestic performers in the women’s T20 game this season.
Today, we look at Bengal’s Brishti Susanta Majhi, who had a superb outing at the 2026 Bengal Women T20 League after looking rather ordinary last time around.
The 22-year-old wicketkeeper batter finished her state T20 league competition with 339 runs at a strike rate of 156.9 while averaging 48.4.
Across her 8 innings, she struck 37 fours and 19 sixes.
To illustrate where her performance ranked across leagues, among batters with 200+ runs in their state T20 league, only Vrinda Dinesh (194.2) of Karnataka had a better strike rate.

|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Dinesh Vrinda | Maharani T20 Trophy | 7 | 268 | 44.7 | 194.2 |
| 2 | Brishti Majhi | Bengal Women T20 | 8 | 339 | 48.4 | 156.9 |

| 5 | Roshini Kiran | Maharani T20 Trophy | 6 | 249 | 49.8 | 152.8 |
And Brishti’s 19 sixes were the most among all players across the various leagues, with her state mate Sujata Dey second with 16 maximums.

| 5 | Dinesh Vrinda | Maharani T20 Trophy | 7 | 11 |
| 6 | Disha Kasat | Vidarbha Pro Women T20 | 3 | 10 |
This is a huge uptick in her returns when compared to what she managed to do in the previous season of the Bengal T20 league in 2025 – 118 runs from 6 innings at a strike rate of just 99.2.
WHAT CHANGED NOTICEABLY IN BRISTI MAJHI’s SCORING?
So how did this batter go from scoring at under a run a ball to scoring at a 150+ with an increase in her volume of runs as well?
To start with, versus pace bowlers, she improved the way she attacked wide lines with a clear improvement in her strike rate there – from being in the low 120s to 180+.

Against spin too, we saw the same improvement in terms of attacking wider lines, but along with that she did a better job of putting away boundaries when the bowlers attempted to keep the stumps in play – from a sub 100 strike rate to 140+.

It wasn’t just the line, but she did a better job of attacking lengths even when pulled back a bit as bowlers attempted to keep the ball out of her hitting arc.
She feasted on the full length where most of her sixes in this year’s tournament came from, but also being able to score boundaries when the bowlers pulled it back.
WHAT BROUGHT ABOUT THIS IMPROVEMENT IN BRISTI MAJHI’s GAME?
This improvement was brought about by a small change to her technique – she gave up her trigger movement and changed to an edge of leg stump guard from a middle/leg guard. And this change is visible versus both pace and spin.

In 2025, starting from middle, she had a trigger movement across the stumps which essentially made her too off-side dependent. In 2026, she is staying still all the way through, from the bowler’s run up to load up stage, allowing her to access both sides of the wicket and not locking up her shot options.
The improvement in her strike rates versus spin on stump line also has been directly influenced by this change.

Her wagon wheel of boundaries from the last season to this illustrates this very point.

These little changes have brought her success as a top order batter with good potential in terms of boundary hitting and in particular six hitting. Translating this to more consistent returns at the next level and dealing with bowlers going away from their traditional lines to her and coming up with newer plans will be the next test for this young Bengal batter.
